The internet is a network that allows for people around the world to communicate. More specifically, people are able to effectively share information with one another. The internet was created in response to the US Military. The internet provided a secure form of communication for the military during the cold war. In 1958 the Advanced Research Projects Agency also known as ARPA created the ARPANET, the beginnings of the internet.

There are many ways to communicate effectively over the internet. Such methods include: social networking, Email, blogs, podcasts, webcasts and streaming media. Social networking is the most convenient way to communicate over the internet in my opinion. Through social media users are allowed to share photos, files and updates by posting to their profiles. It has become a trendy way to stay in touch with people from all around the world including family and friends. Emails and streaming media are the two forms of communicating over the internet that can be used in a professional setting. Email is basically short for electronic mail, as just as you would physically mail a letter, you can type the same information and send it to an email address. I use email every day at my job and I truly believe that I would be lost without it. Streaming media is helpful in all aspects because you can use it in corporate America to display recorded webex's or you can use it for an online learning tutorial. The website, YouTube, is a great example of streaming media. There are videos of music, informative learning and other unique things that viewers can watch. Blogs, podcasts and webcasts fall under the same umbrella. Blogs are a considered a website where users can upload content at their leisure, the main key here is that blogs are typically informal. It is a great way to vent, share experiences or just connect to an audience casually. Podcasts and webcasts are one in the same. The main difference is that podcasts are audio files that can be streamed on the internet as well as downloaded. Webcasts are live video content that be streamed and downloaded.

With the times changing you are now also able to shop online by using E-commerce and M-Commerce platforms. E-Commerce and M-Commerce allows for buying and selling online. M-commerce is a subcategory of E-Commerce and allows you to buy and sell goods over your mobile device. It is a convenient way of purchasing items as opposed to physically going to the store. Sometimes a person just doesn’t have the time to stop at the store so they result to purchasing online. The forms of payment over E-commerce sites include credit or debit cards and direct bank information.
